- From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences
- Click on Keyboard
When you see "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" checkbox, so you have a backlit keyboard.
Adjust your keyboard brightness automatically or manually
You can easily set the keyboard brightness automatically based on available light, or you can adjust it manually.
How to adjust the brightness automatically?
- From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences and then click on Keyboard.
- Select the "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" checkbox.
How to adjust the brightness manually?
For making the keyboard brighter, you should press F6 on your notebook's built-in keyboard. And making it less bright, you should press F5.
Don’t forget when you can't adjust your keyboard's brightness manually, it's because you're in really bright and shiny environment and you have your Mac set to automatically adjust the brightness. So, the backlit keyboard turns off. When you move to a location with less light, you can once again adjust the keyboard's brightness.
